According to a UK news release, famed nanotechnology researcher Dr. Mark Davis will give a lecture as part of the UK College of Engineering “E-day” celebrations on Friday, Feb. 22. The talk will be at the Ralph G. Anderson Building in Raymond Student Commons. The lecture is free and will include lunch. All UK faculty, staff and students are invited.
The release said Davis, a UK alumnus, will discuss the importance of communication as an engineer in the field.
Davis was studying the oil industry as a chemical engineer at the California Institute of Technology in 1995 when his wife was diagnosed with cancer. After her experience with chemotherapy that resulted in a loss of hearing, Davis dedicated himself to cancer treatment. He worked with nanotechnology, the engineering of miniscule particles, to create a drug-delivery that would target tumors more directly, according to the news release. His work was featured on CBS Evening News in 2011.
