During the 2011-2012 school year, 600 Fayette County students dropped out and now unable to find work. However a program called “Paths to Success,” which is run by the Lexington Division of Youth Services is offering help and guidance for these young adults.
During the program, participants will obtain help in getting their GED, while attending several writing, job, and work readiness workshops and classes. If the program is completed, students will get paid up to $1,550.
The program will also pay for the $60 GED testing fee, one-on-one tutoring, transportation costs and clothing to wear to job interviews.
20 of the 39 participants who took part in the program last year, obtained their GEDs and seventeen are now enrolled in college or found jobs.
Interviews for 16 to 18-year-old high school dropouts are currently being conducted for the program’s 40 open spots.
