University of Kentucky’s William T. Young Library will offer a special advance screening Wednesday of a new one-hour documentary on the history of the Davis Bottom neighborhood of Lexington.
“Davis Bottom: Rare History, Valuable Lives” focuses on the working class area just southwest of downtown Lexington that was settled mainly by African-Americans after the Civil War.
One of the major issues affecting Davis Bottom today is the construction of the new Newtown Pike, which has replaced many residents.
Since its settlement nearly 150 years ago, Davis Bottom has been a model for racial diversity in its small community.
The documentary will be distributed by Kentucky Educational Television (KET), and is part of the Kentucky Archaeology and Heritage Series.
The screening Wednesday is free and open to the public.
