UK’s new provost Christine Riordan was honored Oct. 10 by the Girl Scouts of Colorado as one of eight “Women of Distinction” in a ceremony at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel.
Since 1997, the Girl Scouts of Colorado have annually honored women in leadership positions, based on their personal and professional contributions to the community.
“I’m very honored to receive this award,” Riordan told UKnow. “The Girl Scouts of America is really a tremendous organization in terms of its values and its commitment to tackle societal issues and promote diversity and inclusiveness. It’s mission to advance the welfare of girls, as well as to give girls the opportunity to develop skills needed to thrive, is very close to my heart. It was wonderful to receive recognition from the organization that advocates these values.”
The Women of Distinction program has recognized 395 women in its 16 years.
Riordan spent nearly five years as the dean of the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver before accepting the provost position at UK this July.
