This Friday is Keeneland’s bi-annual College Scholarship Day. A day that brings out one of Keeneland’s largest crowds- and for a good reason. College students are admitted free with a valid college ID, and after each race a $1,000 scholarship is awarded. But that’s not all. The day also offers free food from Qdoba, Raising Canes, Core Power and Drake’s, and free t-shirts and other items from Orange Leaf and Vineyard Vines. Various prizes will be given out throughout the day as well, like a $300 Bluetique gift card, a $300 Pazzos pizza pub giftcard, a pair of Costa Del Mar sunglasses and free smoothies for a year at Jamba Juice. The first 2,000 students will also have a choice to either a Vineyard Vines drawstring bag or a student-designed long-sleeve t-shirt.
Fraternities and sororities across the University of Kentucky campus were asked to make and hang a banner celebrating the day in a contest sponsored by Raising Canes. The top three winning fraternities and sororities receive a cash prize for their select philanthropies.
But that’s not the only contest for Greeks this year. For the 2013 Fall meet season, a lot of new elements have been added like tailgating on The Hill, craft beer tents and a Race Day App, and Keeneland continues the new additions on College Scholarship Day. A new contest has been added awarding the fraternity or sorority with the highest percentage attendance. Organizations have until 5 p.m. tonight to sign up and once at the event tomorrow, must sign in at the North Terrace College Zone to receive credit. The winning group will win a complimentary room rental for an event of their choice, based on availability.
Registration for scholarships as well as all other day-of contests begins at 11 a.m.
