After a special election held Tuesday, Democrat Reginald Thomas came out on top for the 13th Senate District seat. Thomas will fill the seat of Democrat Kathy Stein, who was recently appointed to a Fayette County Circuit Court judgeship.
Thomas was up against independent candidate Richard Moloney and Republican candidate Michael Johnson. Moloney came in second with 2,617 votes and Johnson followed with 851 votes, both falling short of Thomas’ total of 4,040.
The 13th district covers much of the city of Lexington within New Circle Road as well as some parts outside the state highway.
