University of Connecticut women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma was recently given a recruiting violation for calling and congratulating a Little League star.
Mo’ne Davis, the female pitcher from Philadelphia, was recently contacted by the Huskies coach, who wanted to congratulate her for her run in the Little League World Series. According to the Hartford Courant, a rival team in the ACC took notice to the call, and reported the incident to the NCAA.
Auriemma was unaware of Davis’ preference of basketball over baseball. He told the Courant, “I have no idea if the kid is very good, kind of good, not good at all or a superstar or can even reach the basket…How is that a violation?”
