A law dating back nearly 100 years had previously denied all Kentuckians the right to buy alcohol on election day. But over the summer the state amended that law, allowing cities to choose if they will sell alcohol in town on Election Day.
It didn’t take Lexington City Council Members long to make that decision. In early September, alcohol sales on election day were approved by the Lexington City council.
Alcohol sales were originally banned as alcohol was used to bribe voters into voting for specific candidates. So far only several Kentucky counties have voted to allow alcohol sales on Election Day.
