Congressman Aaron Schock (R-IL) is heading to the University of Kentucky to appear at a forum on Friday, the university announced Tuesday. Schock, 29, is the youngest member of Congress. He was elected to the U.S. House in 2008.
Schock will be the featured speaker at a forum that will also include Andy Barr, who is challenging Rep. Ben Chandler for Kentucky’s Sixth Congressional district seat in the Nov. 2 general election.
The forum is scheduled for noon on Friday in front of the Main Building on the UK Campus. Coincidentally, this is the same spot where former President Bill Clinton appeared nearly a month ago.
UK Student Government and the College Republicans are the sponsors of the event.
According to the official e-mail, the university and UK Student Government does not endorse candidates for political office.
“One of Student Government’s top responsibilities and requirements is to impartially help any and all student groups that wish to promote civic engagement and awareness. To that end, this will be an incomparable experience for our entire campus community and compelling educational opportunity for UK students in the midst of a pivotal national election,” the e-mail said.
The event will have an impact on some traveling to, from, and around campus on Friday. CATS buses will not stop on Administration Drive and Patterson Drive from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The Red Route will travel down South Limestone, stopping for passengers at the entrance to Administration Drive then turn right on Avenue of Champions and right on Rose Street where it will pick up the normal route. The Blue Route will continue straight on South Limestone, traveling to UK HealthCare Good Samaritan.
