The University of Kentucky’s Christian Student Fellowship is just one month away from the projected opening of their twelve-million-dollar building.
The 40,000 square foot building sits conveniently on the corner of Columbia Avenue across from the William T. Young Library. CSF reported that the acre of land they have secured is rare, given the lack of ground space on campus.
The current CSF building has become too small for the growing number of students who attend the ministry. The new building will address the current problems by providing a larger worship facility, industrial kitchen and more small group rooms.
“I think it’s going to do so much, even from last year coming as a freshman, just seeing every single week more chairs of rows being filled and added to the back,” CSF student Lauren Trusock said. “More and more people are coming, which is a great problem to have.”
The larger worship space will seat nearly three times more students than the current worship space. CSF hopes that the new facility will welcome more students to worship gatherings and make connections with one another.
“I think it is huge, but I think it is huge for a good reason,” Lacy Jones, CSF student worker, said. “I know that there are going to be multiple more people that are going to join CSF, and I am just excited to see the new building creating more space for more people to come in and learn about God.”
The previous CSF building will serve as a new ministry initiative, providing a biblical library and classroom space. CSF will use the building as a center for intellectual and academic engagement for undergraduates, graduates and professors.
CSF has received over nine-million-dollars in donations and hopes to raise the last three-million by the end of this December. Over 100 families have pledged to give over the next three to four years in commitment to this project.
If CSF is unable to raise the funds, the opening date will be pushed back until they reach their financial goal.
