LEXINGTON – In Kentucky, it’s about your county, even if your county is “Lexington” or “Louisville.” These visualizations of the county by county results in the Commonwealth illustrate how different sectors of the state threw support to different candidates. This information, by the way, is prepared by the office of sitting Secretary of State Trey Grayson. A Northern Kentucky Republican, Grayson ran against Bowling Green eye doctor Rand Paul in the primary for the U.S. Senate race that Paul won against Democrat Jack Conway, who is Kentucky’s Attorney General.

6th DISTRICT U.S. CONGRESS
ANDY BARR: Red BEN CHANDLER: Blue
The race for 6th District Congress in Central Kentucky was neck-and-neck throughout the night. The final vote tally shows incumbent Democratic Congressman Ben Chandler ahead with a margin of only 625 votes. While the Secretary of State’s Web site and several media outlets have declared Chandler the winner and the Versailles resident gave a short victory speech late in the evening, challenger Andy Barr gave a speech that indicated “this race is not over.”
Barr’s campaign has the option of requesting first a recanvass, then a formal recount, of the votes, to determine if any procedural errors may have affected the outcome.
The county map indicates that Chandler carried his home county of Woodford and the University of Kentucky’s home county of Fayette. Barr had a very strong showing in other counties, including Jessamine, where Nicholasville is the county seat.
