Today, the University of Kentucky Student Activities Board is sponsoring “MarCat,” UK’s very first on-campus farmers market.
This “mini market” is hosting farmers and representatives from four to five Central Kentucky farms selling handmade and locally grown products. It is meant to teach UK students, faculty and staff the benefits of purchasing local products.
Director of the SAB Engaging Issues Committee Jill Baranowski told UKNow’s Katy Bennett and Sabrina Hounshell, “This will be a great opportunity for students to be introduced to Lexington’s unique local economy. For students on the way to class, or as someone interested in sustainable lifestyles, a quick stop by the Farmers MarCat will be a great way to start the day.”
MarCat will be open until 3 p.m. in Buell Armory.
