Not only is famous singer and artist John Legend focused on making music for the world, but he’s also focused on ensuring education for the world.
John Legend visited the University of Kentucky campus October 4th for a lecture titled “A Conversation with John Legend”. This “conversation” involved Legend’s efforts and views on social issues– in particular the fight for equality in education. Legend let his passion for the issue show through his words as discussed the lack of educational opportunities in impoverished areas, referring to it as the civil rights issue of our generation. “We can’t give up on or kids because they live on the wrong side of town,” he said.
Legend also took the time to mention his personal fight for the cause in his “Show Me” Campaign. His campaign works in fighting for equal access to education. He also talked about other issues of social change such as the fight against AIDS, tax policies, and even the nation’s income inequality.
Throughout Legend’s political conversation, one overall message was made clear. He urged people to “Do something…find your passion.” No matter what someone’s major is or where they live, Legend wants everyone to know they can make a difference.
His lecture was followed by a performance of several of his own songs.
