UK’s Homecoming week will officially begin Saturday, October 15th. This year’s theme, “Cats Set Sail,” is the first theme to be selected by a popular vote of alumni, community members, and students.
This year’s planning team has already been nationally recognized. The Student Homecoming Coalition received the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA) Outstanding Diversity Achievement Award at the 2011 NACA National Conference earlier this year. The coalition, in conjunctions with the UK Alumni Association, has planned a week full of activities for all ages. Many of the events will be free of charge.
This weekend Homecoming events include a little time outdoors. Saturday, Paint the Town Blue will be going on around campus and a few businesses in the area. Registered organizations will be painting windows to display this year’s Homecoming theme. Sunday, the Dance Blue 5K run will begin at 3 p.m. at Commonwealth Stadium. The race will benefit the Pediatric Oncology Clinic at Kentucky’s Children’s Hospital. More information can be found HERE.
On Monday a Homecoming Pep Rally will be held at Haggin Field from 8 to 10 p.m. Tuesday will host the Mo Betta Basketball Game. Students will battle it out against alumni at 7:30 p.m. at Alumni Gym. Wednesday the Mr. and Mrs. Black UK Pageant will be held at 7 p.m. at Memorial Hall. Thursday the Car Smash Cook-out will be held at 6 p.m. near the library bowl. Friday Keeneland will be hosting “See Blue” and the Homecoming Parade will kick off at 7 p.m. downtown. Saturday will wrap up the week of festivities with the Homecoming King and Queen Competition and the UK football game against Jacksonville State.
