The state auditor is more important than you may think.
The state auditor oversees the spending of tax dollars and is required to do on a regular basis. Audits are performed on educational institutions, state agencies, departments, boards, commissions, and nonprofits that receive state money. The completed audits become public records for anyone to see.
The major party candidates are John Kemper III (R) and Adam Edelen (D).
John Kemper III (R)
John Kemper III was born in 1963, and is the son of the dentist who helped initiate the University Of Kentucky School Of Dentistry. He graduated with two Bachelors’ of Arts (Sociology and Psychology) in 1988. He is married to Sue, a Fayette County teacher, and they have two children.Kemper is a self-proclaimed true fiscal conservative who is pro-life and supports low taxes and a limited government.
“I believe a total restructuring of our bloated state government is essential in meeting our responsibilities to the people of the Commonwealth of Kentucky,” Kemper states on his website.

Adam Edelen (D)
Edelen was born in 1974 in Meade County. He attended the University of Kentucky and was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. At 21, during the Patton administration, he was one of the
youngest aides to serve a Kentucky governor. Edelen is divorced and has two young sons.
“It isn’t rocket science in what it is going to take to move Kentucky forward,” said Edelen in an interview with the Courier Journal.
Edelen believes that building world-class schools and job creation for everyone who is willing to work is key.
