The campaign race for the state treasurer may not be as highly anticipated and discussed like the race for governor, but it is crucial in this time of economic uncertainty. Kentucky voters have the unique opportunity to decide between three candidates to serve as the state’s 38th treasurer.
Todd Hollenbach (D) Running for re-election
Todd is a graduate from the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law. In 1985, Todd began his career as an attorney. With his law practice based in Louisville, Todd worked on cases from all of Kentucky’s 120 counties over the next twenty-two years. In 2007, he ran for and was elected as the 37th Kentucky state treasurer. Over the last 5 years, he also served as a Commissioner on the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights.
His first duty in office was reconstructing the state’s reconciliation process. Todd oversaw new software research, development and implementation that has helped enable a balance the state’s depository accounts.Todd also changed the way the Unclaimed Property Division operates. Originally people wanting to locate property went on a website to search in a statewide database. Todd, stating it was not an effective method, began traveling to each county recruiting local volunteers with a knowledge of the community to help the property find it’s owners.
To aide high school seniors on how to make educated decisions and manage their money, Todd launched the Financial Literacy Program to be established in all Kentucky schools. Todd has also sponsored regional job fairs focusing on the poverty stricken parts of the state.
Todd’s plan and policies for the 2011-2015 term can be found on his website.

Ken Moellman (L)
Ken, a life-long resident of Kentucky, has served his community as an IT professional for 15 years. According to his website, he created a software that was so advanced that he automated himself out of two pervious computer technology jobs. He plans to apply this knowledge and experience to his plan for office to reduce operating costs through automation.
Ken has served as a spokesperson for the Northern Kentucky Choice smoking ban. His other political experiences include acting as the former chairman of the Libertarian Party of Kentucky and managing the campaign for Kentucky’s Libertarian Party run for Congress in a three-way race.
His platform includes doing away with out-dated office practices, streamlining repetitive activities with automation and developing a transition plan that will assist state employees who might be affected by the automation.
“Those close to retirement will ride through the term, and we’ll help the rest relocate within state government,” Ken states on his site.
Additional information about Ken’s platform and plan can be found on his website.
