The Kentucky Democratic Party won big inthe 2011 election, putting many of its candidates in office. Steve Beshear and Jack Conway were both re-elected and won by healthy margins. Alison Lundergarden Grimes received the highest amount of votes of any other democratic candidate, and Todd Hollenbach won a tight race for State Treasurer over Lexington councilwoman K.C. Crosbie.
The Kentucky Democratic Party celebration was held at the Convention Center in downtown Frankfort. The public event opened its doors at 6 p.m. after the voting polls had closed. The party recognized all the Democratic candidates who were running in the 2011 election.
Congressman Bill Chandler spoke to an eager crowd of constituents about the candidates running for office and how they will benefit the state of Kentucky. “This is a win not just for Democrats, but a win for Kentucky themselves,” said Chandler.
Adam Edelen was announced State Auditor and shared his political hopes for Kentucky with the crowd. “Kentucky will forever be a land of opportunity, and we will capitalize on human potential,” Edelen. Edelen will succeed Democrat Crit Luallen, who was the State Auditor the previous two terms.
Jack Conway took the stand after Edelen and delivered his acceptance speech with passion, and dedicated his re-election win to his family that was present with him on stage. He also acknowledged the voters and party members for allowing him to serve another term. “I want to thank you for standing up with me tonight,” said Conway. “The people of Kentucky have one advocate and that’s us in the office of the Attorney General.”
Conway spoke about the threat of prescription drugs and the efforts to keep child pornography of the Internet. Conway shared the goals of the office of the Attorney General by highlighting two key points in that he will dispense justice fairly and treat the office as a public interest law firm.
Steve Beshear was re-elected Governor with his win over David Williams and Gatewood Galbraith. Beshear also spoke to the crowd in Frankfort and shared his vision of a ‘lean and efficient’ government. Beshear won the race for Governor by a wide margin and will have another four years in office.
