Governor of Kentucky Steve Beshear is bringing back legislation to expand gambling.
Beshear called a press conference Tuesday morning at the State Capitol to introduce the bill, which is expected to provide for a constitutional amendment to allow racetracks to have casinos.
Four years ago on Valentine’s Day Beshear tried to pass similar legislation. Gov. Beshear and Sen. Thayer worked together to develop the bill and to build consensus support for it within the General Assembly. Because the bill is a constitutional amendment, it must receive at least 60 percent of the votes in each legislative chamber in order to pass.
Beshear said revenue from the casinos would be spent for job creation, education, human services, health care, veterans programs, local governments, public safety and support of the horse industry.
