Dreaming of Julia rans third on the Kentucky Oaks leaderboard. Unlimited Budget ranks second.
The Kentucky Oaks was first run in 1875. It was founded by Meriwether Lewis Clark Jr. along with the Kentucky Derby..The Oaks was modeled after England’s Epsom Derby. Both The Oaks and The Derby have been continuously run at the present day Churchill Downs site, making them the longest held races in history at a single venue and the only races still raced on their original course. The Kentucky Oaks is a Grade 1 Stakes race for three- year-old fillies, one of the three races in the Triple Tiara of Thoroughbred racing. The other two are The Black-Eyed Susan held at Pimlico and The Acorn held at Saratoga on the same days as the other races that add up to Thoroughbred racing’s Triple Crown of which the Kentucky Derby is the first.
