The Frederick Douglass Broncos got their state tournament run off on the right hoof Wednesday with a 44-23 wire-to-wire victory over Henderson County.
The Broncos (25-7) were led by Jaelee Knowles’ 15 points and eight rebounds. Tamia Waide added 12 points, including four 3-pointers in the victory. Frederick Douglass never trailed in the victory in the Clark’s Pump-n-Shop Girls’ Sweet 16 at Rupp Arena.
Henderson County (24-10) had just two points in the second quarter and fell behind 24-8 at the half, making just two of its 18 shots. The Colonels shot 15.4% for the game. A’tylia Green led the way with 11 points and eight rebounds.
